So here is my list of book abuse pet peeves:
1) Writing in books that don't belong to you. I don't care what you thought and I don't need a lesson in grammar, but you might. Often times, I find myself wanting to track down the person who wrote in the book to tell them the author's grammar is correct and that I disagree with their comments! Argh!
2) Bending pages to mark your place. Use a piece of paper, an old grocery receipt, annoying junk mail, a bookmark, but don't bend the pages of a book!
3) Smoking while reading. I realize it's your choice to ruin your lungs and pollute your own air, but I have allergies and don't want to smell you!
4) Leaving a book upside down with its spine open. Do you have any idea how bad this is for books? Guess why so many books have broken spines at the library!
5) Eating while reading. I realize we all do this, but honestly, I don't want to know what you were snacking on while you read the book I checked out. I'm not that hungry that I need your leftovers.
6) People who leave boogers/blood/other bodily fluids behind. Um, EW! I shouldn't even need to be typing this. You know who you are and sadly, you're probably not reading this. My readers are all thoughtful, intelligent, dedicated writers and readers who would probably never do this.
7) Leaving important papers behind in a book. I admit I have worried about doing this myself, but thankfully, never have. However, I once found someone's insurance papers in a book and another time someone's mortgage closing. Your identity can be stolen, people! Be careful! Thankfully, I'm a nice person, but someone else might not be.
You can stop book abuse by passing along this article. Oh and you can join Creepfest where books are loved! *grins*

I don't know anything about creepfest, but I do know it's disgusting how people treat library books! I think the worst is eating though - trying to unstick pages with orange Cheeto smears or chocolate (I HOPE it's chocolate) is just so gross.
I once had to buy the library a new cookbook because I left it too close to the kitchen sink, the sink overflowed and the book was drenched. I DID pay own up to this and pay for the replacement, though.
You know Nora is serious when she threatens to sic the beardies on you.
Erin, you're right! When the beardies come out, all bets are off! Mwahaha.
But seriously people, be nice to the books. PLEASE!
Creepfest is going well - good for you. And I stopped reading from the local library for exactly these reasons. My dadd was the worst culprit. As an insomniac (just one of MANY issues) he read around six books at a time and many through the week. He had no cash so used the library, that is until all his local libraries banned him. He committed every sin above and even worse - sold them!! I'm utterly ashamed of course.
Kindles are therefore my saviour! :D Can I wish you a Fabulous Festive season and joyful 2012 while I'm here? Oh go on then :D X
R.L., heheh. You make me chuckle. There are so many horrible things that happen to books out there. *shudders*
LOL...I had to laugh at this post because I agreed with every comment and have experienced most of them myself...
I live getting books from the library but cannot believe how people treat them! Ignoramus people should not be allowed near a book...get the ebook for them:
