First Creepfest Winner Announced and New Contest!

Congratulations, Tim Ward! You've won a signed copy of Deadlines: An Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction. My business advisor designed this contest and loved Sparkles. It made him laugh.

Don't fret. Everyone else still has a chance to win a copy of Twisted Tongue, the UK magazine featuring my short story, A Taste of Murder, featuring a dark twist on the Greek character, Persephone.
Okay, here are the rules. Read them first and then get typing!

Anyone participating in this tour is subject to this rule.

2) I am not guaranteeing this will arrive in time for the holidays. The prize will be mailed snail mail. Please leave your email in your comment or a site address where I can contact you. You're probably wondering what you have to do. It's simple. Leave me a comment describing in 100 words or less what mythological character you would put in your own story and what dark twist you would add to make it horror.

I think I would use the Sirens, the singing mermaids who lured sailors to their deaths. These wouldn't be your typical little mermaid types though. We're talking teeth and claws and evil grins.

I just finished a short story where Lares (Roman good spirits of the dead) and Lemures (you guessed it, they're the mean spirits) are at the center of it. My dark twist? I made a human offering for the baddies. =)

Happy Creepfest from Diary of a Writer in Progress!

I have forests on the brain since we seem to have one growing in the backyard of the house we're about to buy. I think forest fairies would have to make an appearance and not the Tinkerbell variety. I wrote a story about an evil little fairy who has a love affair with a man (it ends badly) called "Fairy Lust and Pixie Dust." It's in April 2011's issue of State of Imagination. www.stateofimagination.com :)

Hmmm... I tend to make up my own creatures for a lot of my horror, and usually they're blood thirsty beasts who don't care about anything except for feeding their hunger for blood.

I've always liked the Medusa. I could imagine her taking a liking for engineering and developing a giant mirror of sorts to turn entire cities into stone. She's vengeful like that.

I'm thinking of using Zeus as a nightclub owner in Vegas. "Hey, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."

I'd write about a unicorn. A voraciously carnivorous unicorn. There aren't enough of those in fiction.
