Historic Downtown Savannah, Georgia Part I. - Photo Essay

Recently, I blogged about writing a young adult vampire short story set in Savannah. These are the photos I am using to draw inspiration for my story. I visited Savannah in December of 2010. It is a wonderful town filled with so much for the writer's imagination, ghost tours, historic tours, the booming riverfront nightlife, antiquing, and a great art community. I hope you are inspired to write as well. I'll be posting more pictures on Sunday.

Savannah is filled with lots of historic squares.

To the riverfront.

Riverfront shops.

Oldest bell  in Georgia from 1802.
Used to signal the end of a work day and also
as a fire alarm.

Built in 1887, The Savannah Cotton Exchange
was the hub of the cotton industry on the Atlantic Ocean.

One of many riverboat tours offered.

The original cobblestone streets of Savannah.

Take the elevator and not the original steep stairs.

Great pictures! I still haven't made it to Savannah! My sister and her friends used to go once a year. And some friends used to do a pub crawl there. Now, I'm too far away for a "quick trip". I'll make it some day! Thanks for stopping by the Sit and Relax hop again. Have a great weekend!

The closest I've ever been is the airport in Atlanta. Savannah looks beautiful. Just like 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.'

Nora, thank you for this blog. I love the way you "teach". I hate lectures and this lets me tap in when and how it works best for my writing.

I just listened to a 20 minute interview with Stephen King yesterday. I love how he is so helpful, down to earth and unaffected by fame. He talked about how critics have really hurt his feelings. So many (famous) people never admit it. Some critics seem to enjoy being "hell bent for blood".

Anyway, he has not won a lot of literary awards. While the recognition is always welcome, he prefers that writers who need the money win the prizes. He referred to "Carrie" and how it saved their financial butts.

What he shares is such a promise to the rest of us.

Am I putting you and Stephen King on the same pedestal? If I am, Nora, deal with it! :D

I love old things - they provide so much more inspiration than new - almost as if they speak to a difference consciousness. You have talking pictures here ;D
